Steve founded asset plus+ in 2004, however his expertise in financial services was established many years prior to this. Starting as an insurance advisor with The Pearl in 1992 because “it looked like a great job to visit people in their homes for a chat and a cup of tea..” Steve went on to specialise in the mortgage market when he joined Countrywide in 1997 before setting up on his own in 2000.
Having seen a lot of changes in the industry over the years, Steve’s belief in what makes a good mortgage brokerage has never changed. “Understand your clients individual circumstances to provide the most comprehensive advice and keep them informed every step of the way.” This underpins asset plus+ today.
So how does he relax outside of work? “With 3 children, I wouldn’t use the word “relax” but I love to get involved in all their activities including football, canoeing or whatever the latest craze is, which is currently learning the guitar!”
Senior Mortgage Advisor
As the longest serving member of the team, Paul has worked with Steve as man and boy! On his first day, Paul travelled from Reading to start his first day in Slough but unfortunately got the express train and ended up in London Paddington! Over 15 years later, Paul has gone from strength to strength, moving quickly from an administrator to a mortgage adviser and over the last 2 years winning mortgage broker of the year at The Right Mortgage Network Awards.
What’s the secret to his success? “By not only knowing my customers requirements for a mortgage but understanding their aspirations, it means they trust my advice and they come back for all future financial requirements.”
Outside the office Paul loves to spend time with his daughter as well as play football. He is also rather partial to a nice Gin, given the chance!
In January 2015 asset plus+ moved to new premises in Burnham High Street and employed a new administrator – “local lass “ Sharon. Having had no previous experience of the mortgage market, Sharon embraced her new role with gusto, quickly learning the ropes and moving on to head up the admin team.
Having now completed her CeMap qualifications, Sharon has become a valued member of the adviser team. Being well known locally and having a lot of connections, Sharon is becoming a first point of contact for secured finance enquiries.
With her 2 children grown up and now independent, Sharon is making the most of her time, enjoying lots of travel and music festivals. Never one to sit still, Sharon has set herself the challenge to run a half marathon.
Lauren heads up our Reading office. Originally training as a quantity surveyor, Lauren decided that construction was not for her and joined her dad to train in the mortgage industry. Having previously specialised in the commercial and buy to let market, Lauren joined asset plus+ to expand her experience in the residential mortgage market.
When not working, the majority of Laurens’ time is taken up with her young son, but before being so busy with child care, Lauren was a keen ice hockey player. Nowadays she still manages to squeeze in some horse riding.
As the youngest team member, Kiren joined asset plus+ through an apprenticeship scheme at the tender age of 17. Having only just passed her driving test, she was straight in at the deep end, tackling motorway driving, a new job role and apprenticeship assessments within weeks of leaving school. Of course she handled it all with the cool calmness she is still well known for. Not one to sit still Kiren is now working towards her CeMap qualifications.
Kiren’s role means she is communicating with clients through the whole mortgage process, keeping them up to date with the progress, requesting any additional information and liaising with solicitors and estate agents – not stopping until our clients have the keys to their new front door! This dedication doesn’t go unnoticed with clients regularly sending thank you messages and cards for Kiren’s support.
Outside of work Kiren helps look after her younger siblings and her cat Tammy but does enjoy make up, music and shopping too!
Stevie is another superstar in the administration team. As the first friendly face you meet coming through the office door, Stevie’s dedication to the clients is second to none and she loves to meet the children as they come to play in our family room.
Like Kiren, Stevie’s commitment to the client doesn’t stop when a mortgage offer has been issued, and is committed to help the clients, dealing with any other uncertainties the clients may encounter during the entire process.
Outside of work, Stevie enjoys spending time with her family and shopping! “Handbags in particular are my weakness!”
Insurance Sales Advisor
Having joined the team 4 years ago, Bev is known in the office for her attention to detail and outside for being the life and soul of a night out! Having started as a member of the mortgage administration team, Bev now specialises in insurances; taking clients through the steps of protection products to help them understand and ultimately protect their assets; be it an outstanding mortgage debt or lifestyle cover in the event of unforeseen life events.
Outside of work Bev has 2 children to look after… “3 if you include my husband, so I mostly wash, iron, de-flea the cat and watch X-Factor! With more time I would like to play more netball, run more and go on more holidays.
Marketing & Finance Manager
Jennifer joined the team on a temporary basis back when her children were little, 5 years later she is now ensconced within the company. She is tasked with improving the company’s media presence and customer communications, while keeping a close eye on the finance and spending.
“A question I am often asked is, if being married to the boss has it’s challenges, but as our children will quickly tell you “Dad’s only the boss at work and mum’s definitely the boss at home!”
Out of the office Jennifer enjoys travelling and holidays as well as cooking and hosting parties.
